University Highlights

As of spring 2009, LSU enrolled over 26,000 students. Culturally diverse in nature, the University recruits undergraduates and graduates from around the globe. To date, there are more than 1,400 international students and over 4,000 graduate students.  These and all outstanding students receive instruction from nearly 1,500 highly qualified faculty members, 85% of which have the highest degree in their field.

LSU has produced a number of distinguished undergraduates, including four Marshall Scholars, 24 Goldwater Scholars, 14 Rhodes Scholars, four Truman Scholars, and more than 25 Fulbright Scholars. Students continue to be in high demand upon graduation, receiving great job offers at graduation and remaining competitive in securing internships and residencies.

Campus Highlights

  • Louisiana State University is the Flagship University for Louisiana and includes 10 senior colleges and schools, in addition to specialized centers, divisions, institutes, and offices.
  • For a second consecutive year, the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Flores MBA Program has been ranked in the nation’s top 10 by the Wall Street Journal among schools that draw corporate recruiters regionally. After debuting in the rankings at ninth in 2006, the program gained momentum and was ranked seventh in 2007.
  • LSU’s Center for Internal Auditing, or CIA, program has been the international leader in internal audit education since 1985.
  • LSU is home to a first-class medical physics program run in partnership with the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, or MBPCC – one of only 11 such accredited programs in the entire country.
  • LSU’s chemistry department produces the most African American Ph.D.’s in chemistry in the U.S.
  • The LSU College of Engineering, established in 1908, prides itself as one of a limited number of colleges offering degrees in construction management and petroleum engineering. This College focuses on interdisciplinary research and education in a wide variety of engineering disciplines: biological, agricultural, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, industrial, mechanical, petroleum, and in construction management.
  • For the third consecutive year, the LSU Robert S. Reich School of Landscape Architecture is ranked among the top five schools in the nation by DesignIntelligence, the leading journal of the design professions.
